I do not preplan my paintings unless they are  commissioned.

 

I am a highly energetic person always looking for stimulation. So I want to produce work that is provacitive, emotionally charged, and pleasingly disruptive. I am a messy artist, and need  a loud environment to create.  I play House Music, Salsa, and Jazz while I work.

 

I pick the color combinations that are vibrant and visceral. My intuition guides me to create with an eclectic rhythm.  

 

I use acrylics paints and Posca pens, because they are easy to use and very forgiving. I use paint directly from the tube with a brush or my finger.  I love to outline work my with black Posca paint pens.

 

Reworking my art several times is essential to my process. This allows me to discover the layers and composition of the piece. Thus enabling me  to create rich textures and depth in my work.

I construct two bodies of abstract work; one centered on women's power and sensuality, and the other on the expressive power of color, line, shape and texture.

Both invite curiosity, reflection, and continual discovery, encouraging viewers to form their own personal connection with each piece.symbols  within my work, as a tribute to my ancestors. The pulse of its people and nature. The ocean’s never ending force and beauty. I am also fascinated by indigenous people and their history.

I am extremely fortunate to have an art studio in my home. While I work I listen to loud House Music, Salsa, or Club Hits. My dog Thomas is always nearby demanding attention. So while I am  painting,  I am often throwing a  ball.
